The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has marked 61 days of minimal power interruptions, including an impressive 41 consecutive days without any load shedding.
Outgoing General Manager for Stakeholder Relations, Communication and Welfare at ZESA Holdings, George Manyaya, highlighted the achievement in a farewell message to staff and stakeholders as he wrapped up his four-year tenure in Harare on Friday, 30 January. Said Manyaya:
“Let this be known in history that as I leave today, ZESA marks 41 days of continuous non-load shedding, yes, none and 61 days of only one hour load shedding at peak.”
ZESA’s power generation arm, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), has been producing just under 1,200 MW in recent days, leaving a significant shortfall against the country’s peak demand of around 2,000 MW.
While Manyaya did not disclose exactly how ZESA achieved the milestone, it appears the utility has been importing electricity from neighbouring countries to help bridge the deficit.
Manyaya departs ZESA after being appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), a role he will assume from 1 February 2026.
