The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Retired Lieutenant General Dr Sibusiso Moyo says Zimbabwe is committed to enhancing relations with Russia for mutual benefits through increased cooperation in various sectors of the economy.

Dr Moyo said this at the end of the three-day Zimbabwe-Russia Intergovernmental Commission in Russia.

In his speech Dr Moyo said “I am happy with the deliberations that have been on-going for the past three days in efforts to strengthen the existing bilateral relations. I again take this opportunity to applaud the cooperation between Zimbabwe and Russia in various sectors, including agriculture, education, energy, tourism, transport and mining among others”.

Retired Lieutenant General Dr Moyo also noted that the cooperation in these sectors, and others would be further enhanced for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

“There is need for constant engagement between the two countries in order to identify and iron out any outstanding issues to ensure implementation of what has been agreed,” he said.

Government is looking forward to the September meeting of the Russian-Zimbabwe Business Council and the Russia-Africa Economic Forum scheduled to take place in Sochi in late October.

“All these events provide useful opportunities for yet further focus on Zimbabwe-Russia relations and, more broadly, the opportunity for us to work together to raise the profile of the Russian federation in Zimbabwe and across the African continent” he said.
