Zim, Russia scale up cooperation

Zimbabwe is set to benefit from the 3rd Session of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Cooperation which was held recently in Moscow, Russia.

The Zimbabwe, Russia relations will see the country benefiting in many sectors, including mining and tourism.

This came out in a post-Cabinet media briefing held in Harare this Tuesday.

The conference saw various agreements being signed in sectors such as in mining, tourism and healthcare, among others.

“The legal framework of bilateral cooperation agreement [is set] to see the conclusion the following six memoranda of understanding before end of 2019: mutual protection of classified information; cooperation in the field of geological exploration and mineral resource management; cooperation in [mining of] platinum group metals; cooperation in the field of diamond exploration and mining and cooperation in economic, trade and industrial cooperation, tourism, agriculture,” the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa said.

Cabinet also received a report on the 39th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government held from 17 to 18 August 2019 in Dar- es-Salaam, Tanzania.

A roadmap to the development of a US$12 billion mining industry in Zimbabwe by 2023 was also received by cabinet.

“Cabinet considered a paper by the Minister of Mines and Mining Development on the roadmap for the achievement of a US$12 billion mining industry in Zimbabwe by 2023, a 344% increase from US$2.7 billion in 2017. A detailed document which will outline the achievement of the US$12 billion mining industry by 2023 will be launched very shortly,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Cabinet was also updated on the fuel and energy supply situation which has slightly improved over the past week, as well as an update on the public works and DDF borehole drilling programmes.
