Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. ZIMBABWE’S swimming team has arrived in Manzini, Eswatini, ready to compete in the 21st Zone IV Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships.

The prestigious event, which runs from September 3-7, is set to feature teams from 15 Sadc member States.

The team is focused on improving its previous record and bringing home more medals.

At the same tournament hosted by Namibia last December, Zimbabwe secured an impressive 44 medals — 11 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze—to finish third behind powerhouse nations Namibia and South Africa with a combined score of 1 725.50 points.

The Zimbabwe Swimming Federation has selected a strong squad featuring several familiar faces from last year’s tournament, including Loyiso Mahobele, Alexis Johnsen, Farai Matebele and Sibusiso Fayaya.

They are joined by Teak Watson and Jude Moss, who recently participated in the South Africa Nationals and Junior Nationals held in Gqeberha earlier this year.

“I am really motivated to represent my country and show everyone back home — my family, my friends — all the hard work I’ve put into swimming,” said Liam Chickson, one of the swimmers representing Zimbabwe.

“I’m hoping to improve my times, hopefully get some medals, and overall show everyone how I’ve improved in the sport.”

The team is led by a dedicated management and coaching staff, including head coach Masi Takaedza, coach Leigh Anne Young, senior manager Sothini Ngwenya and manager Mike Roper.
