Zimbabwe is expected to experience hot and mostly dry conditions in the coming days as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) moves northwards.
In a weather advisory issued on Wednesday afternoon, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) said the week from Thursday, 29 January to Thursday, 5 February 2026 is likely to see higher daytime temperatures and generally dry conditions, with possible moisture shortages across the country. The MSD said:
“Prevailing south-easterly winds, carrying cool and moist air, are suppressing thunderstorm activity by displacing the main rain-bearing system, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), northwards.
“Nonetheless, periods of light rain and drizzle are anticipated for localised areas of Matabeleland South, Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces from Thursday, 31 January, through Sunday, 01 February 2026.
“Beginning Monday, 02 February, and continuing for the remainder of the advisory period, the weather pattern is expected to shift. Much of the country will experience generally partly cloudy and hot conditions.
“However, there remains a slight chance of isolated, brief periods with light showers in a few areas.
“Daily updates will be disseminated via all official media channels.
“The public is strongly advised to take precautionary measures as directed by the Department of Civil Protection.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Civil Protection has warned that reduced cloud cover and longer hours of sunshine could lead to heavy sweating and dehydration.
The department also warned that livestock and pets may suffer from heat stress. It has advised members of the public to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, avoid spending long periods in the sun, and protect themselves by wearing a sunhat, sunglasses, or using an umbrella.
