Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THIS year’s Mapressa Fashion and Glamour Show marked an extraordinary fourth edition that radiated identity, creativity and unity.
Held in the heart of Johannesburg last weekend, this cultural spectacle showcased the rich heritage and artistry of Zimbabweans living in South Africa, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended.
The event is establishing itself as more than just a fashion show — it’s become a cultural movement, uniting Zimbabweans from diverse districts to compete for the prestigious titles of Mr and Miss Districts.
Contestants dazzled the audience with style, confidence, originality and presentation. As excitement filled the air, the winners emerged, embodying the true spirit of Zimbabwean pride!
“Fashion is not just about clothing; it’s about culture, pride and representation,” said event organiser Promise Sibanda from Tsholotsho, who celebrated the successful execution of a vibrant atmosphere that brought together new and familiar faces alike.
The 2025 edition was particularly special, witnessing a record number of districts joining the competition, with newcomers bringing fresh energy and creativity.
In a world where social cohesion is vital, the Mapressa Fashion Show aims to foster unity among Zimbabweans in the diaspora, particularly in South Africa.
The event provided a powerful platform for attendees, contestants and performers to sport designs by local Zimbabweans, effectively promoting local talent while showcasing breathtaking fashion that left the audience in awe.
Attendees included a dazzling array of guests from various sectors — influencers, designers, entrepreneurs and families — who converged to support their districts.
The presence of South African celebrities such as Detective Nyawo and Mangcobo from “Shaka Ilembe,” along with popular influencers like Quality Biyela and Professor, amplified the glitz and glamour of the evening.
“It’s a celebration of our heritage in a glamorous way,” said Sibanda, also known as DJ Mapressa.
“Witnessing so many talented individuals proudly representing their roots was inspiring!”
The Mapressa Fashion and Glamour Show also emphasises the importance of inhlanzeko, or cleanliness and dignity, reinforcing that fashion can, indeed, uplift communities while promoting a sense of pride and representation.
As the event concluded, many attendees left inspired with dreams of expanding the Mapressa brand back to Zimbabwe and to other major diaspora hubs, such as the UK, where Zimbabweans thrive.
With each edition of the Mapressa Fashion and Glamour Show, the bond among Zimbabweans in South Africa grows stronger while the world watches as their vibrant culture dazzles on the global stage.
