Police have recovered 2025 ZIMSEC Ordinary Level results slips that were stolen from the headmaster of Chiwere Secondary School and later dumped in a refuse bin in Dangamvura, Mutare.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that the slips, along with other school documents, were recovered after police from Dangamvura Police Station swiftly arrested one suspect.
The headmaster, Tizai Gwazhi (49), was robbed on Monday evening in Dangamvura after collecting the results from ZIMSEC offices in Mutare.
He had stopped for drinks in the city centre before heading to a friend’s home in Area 16, when he was attacked by two assailants who stole the results slips and his cellphone.
Police acted on a tip-off that MacCthy Tshuma of Gimboki South was selling an Infinix cellphone matching the stolen device.
He was arrested at his home and led officers to the recovery of the phone and the results slips, which had been dumped in a rubbish bin in Area 3. Another suspect, known only as Maradona, is still at large. Said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka:
“On January 19, 2026, at around 10 pm, near ZAOGA Church in Area 3, Dangamvura, Gwazhi, the headmaster of Chiwere Secondary School in Odzi, was robbed of the school’s O-Level results, cash book, fees application forms, and his personal Infinix cellphone by two unidentified men.
“Earlier that day, Gwazhi had visited ZIMSEC offices in Mutare to collect the 2025 Ordinary Level results for his school.
“He collected the documents at around midday and later attended a results evaluation workshop at the same offices, which ended at 5 pm.”
After the workshop, Gwazhi allegedly went to a bar in Mutare’s Central Business District, where he drank three quarts of beer.
At around 7 pm, he boarded a commuter omnibus to Dangamvura, planning to spend the night at a friend’s home in Area 16.
However, he was unfamiliar with the route. He said he asked the conductor to drop him at the Area 16 turn-off, but the request was forgotten, and the vehicle continued to MaPipe in Gimboki.
After being forced to get off at MaPipe, Gwazhi decided to walk to Area 16. When he reached the ZAOGA Church in Area 3, two men suddenly emerged from a nearby maize field. One of them tripped him from behind, causing him to fall.
The attackers assaulted him and grabbed his satchel. Although he tried to resist, he was overpowered, and the assailants ran off into the darkness with the bag.
The stolen satchel contained the Ordinary Level results, an Infinix mobile phone, a short-sleeved checked shirt, his national identity card, the school date stamp, an ink pad, a cash book, fees application forms, and an envelope with work-related documents and leave forms. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at US$93.
After the incident, Gwazhi sought safety at the church, where he spent the night. He reported the matter to ZRP Dangamvura the following morning, and police visited the scene.
