Zimbabweans have been urged not to get tired of assisting less privileged members of the society.

This came out at The 2019 edition of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General of Police’s Charity Horse Race which was held at the Borrowdale race course yesterday.

The main objective of the ZRP Commissioner General of Police’s Horse Race which was held at Borrowdale race course in Harare is to raise funds to assist the less privileged.

Crowds at the horse race were entertained by police displays, fun games and music.

Away from the fun, Mashonaland Turf Club Chairperson Mr Gary Carter expressed commitment towards supporting the ZRP Charity programme through the horse racing event which has become a key feature on their calendar..

ZRP Commissioner General Godwin Matanga spoke on the main objective of the event which is anchored in assisting the less privileged members of society.

“Everyone of us no matter our religion has been taught the moral imperative of giving. With such upbringing as societal values, we share the pain and suffering of the less privileged in our various communities,” he said.

In his keynote address, The minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Ambassador Cain Mathema hailed the ZRP for their Charity work which has seen the police providing a helping hand to those in need.

“I would like to mention with pride that the Commissioner General of police’s Horse race being one of the ZRP’s fundraising initiatives has reaped tremendous results in supporting and caring for orphans and widows. Indeed it is gratifying to note that although this benevolence was initially meant for bereaved families of departed members, the ZRP has since broadened the gesture to include other disadvantaged members of the community,” he said.

The horse race saw one of the favourites, “In the Mood”, winning ahead of three other horses in the ZRP Charity Sable Flyers race which had a stake of 30 000 dollars.
