Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will conduct audits of rations distributed to stations to address allegations of abuse by senior officers.
This move follows recent complaints from junior officers who accused their superiors of selling food rations intended for lower ranks.
ZRP Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, speaking at a meeting with senior officers from across the country, issued a stern warning against indiscipline within the force, which continues to grapple with numerous challenges, including corruption.
At an extraordinary meeting held in Lupane, Matabeleland North, Mutamba reportedly announced that all rations will henceforth be subject to strict audits. He was quoted as saying:
Rations are to be well distributed. You are going to be audited. Let us all be disciplined; there is a lot of indiscipline among officers. I expect a change in all aspects. Let us change our mindset, stay in clean places, including offices.
During the meeting, Mutamba addressed the issue of cellphone use among police officers. He said:
Let us use radios. All police stations to do parades and the officers-in-charge should inspect the parades on cleanliness, identity cards and points. Training is coming, we want efficiency. Training shall be the order of the day.
According to police sources who attended the meeting, inspectors and chief inspectors will undergo 42 days of training, while non-commissioned officers are scheduled for 84 days.
