ZRP to patrol the roads throughout the festive season

THE ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) says it will continue patroling the roads and curb road carnage as the country recorded 74 traffic accidents recorded on boxing day, with six of them being fatal.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi attributed the accidents to speeding, reversing errors and lack of attention on the part of drivers.

He said 117 touts were arrested, 129 vehicles impounded for various offences and 724 tickets were issued for various offences.

During the same period last year, 102 traffic accidents were recorded with 8 fatalities and 38 injuries.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the police will remain on the ground for the rest of the festive season to ensure a crime-free atmosphere.
He appealed to motorists to be attentive and avoid speeding as well as ensuring that their vehicles are in sound condition before embarking on journeys.
