Four people died in a horrific head-on collision that happened at the Kaguvi training centre just outside Gweru this Friday night.
The accident which happened around midnight involved a Toyota Corolla and a haulage truck.
According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Corolla driver tried to overtake in front of an oncoming truck resulting in the head-on collision.
All four people who were travelling in the Toyota Corolla vehicle died on the spot while the driver of the haulage truck sustained slight injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the accident and warned drivers against speeding.
Connemara Prison officer in Charge, Chief Prison Officer Gwauya Mutuke says the stretch has become a death trap and implored the government to put in place measures to curb the recurrence of accidents in the area.
“We witness accidents in this area after every two weeks. People have tried to cleanse the area as it has become a death trap. We are appealing to authorities to at least put some humps to control drivers from speeding.”
The police said names of the deceased will be announced once their next of kin have been advised.
