PEOPLE of Nsungwale village under Chief Sinakoma in Binga, this Monday woke up to massive destruction and flooded homes due to incessant rainfall for the last few days.

The Binga District Civil Protection Committee has activated the disaster response system as a large number of people in the area have experienced severe destruction of property.

Eleven villagers are reported to have been marooned. According to information from the Binga District Civil Protection Committee, Nandobe Bridge has also been swept away following the flash floods making some of the affected parts inaccessible.

Acting Binga District Administrator, Farai Marinyane told the ZBC News team that the rescue operation is continuing this Wednesday with the team concentrating on areas which were not accessible on Monday. He, however, could not give the exact number of families affected by the flash floods as information is still being compiled.

According to Marinyane the floods have since subsided but indicated that the District Civil Protection Committee has a lot of work to do in dealing with the aftermath of the flash floods.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) last week warned that heavy rains will be experienced across the country until this Wednesday.
