Africa-Press – Angola. The senior women’s handball team from Petro de Luanda arrives today at 19:45 in the city of Lubango, province of Huíla, where they start tomorrow, the defense of the title of champion of the 43rd edition of the National Championship that runs until the 19th of this.
Inserted in Group B, coach Vivaldo Eduardo’s team will face Progresso do Sambizanga, on the first round, scheduled for tomorrow, at 9:00 am, at the Nossa Senhora do Monte Multipurpose Pavilion.
The head of Petro de Luanda’s women’s handball, José Aleixo, said, in statements, that team enters the competition with the aim of winning, but always respecting the power of the opponents.
“It is the game that marks the opening of the competition, whose objective is to revalidate the title of national champion”, he said.
Continuing, he highlighted the fact that the athletes who were part of the Junior National Team, which occupied the sixth place in the World Championship, held in Slovenia, only took part in the preparation work yesterday.
“All the athletes are in good health and are ready for an auspicious start”, he assured.
As for the number of participating teams, 11, Aleixo considered it reasonable. Although he defends: “The more teams the better, because we play more games and with that the National Team benefits”.
In turn, the coach of Progresso Sambizanga, Armando Ngumbe, acknowledged that Petro de Luanda is stronger.
“What we aim for in the opening game is to improve the processes of defense and quick attacks.”
The group also includes the formations of Maculusso, Sporting do Namibe and Casa do Pessoas do Porto do Lobito.
For Ngumbe, the group is difficult: “It is a difficult group because we are going to face the teams of Maculusso and Casa Personal do Porto do Lobito, with acceptable rhythms. We will do our best to finish the race in an acceptable position”, he said.
In addition to Petro and Progresso, the teams from 1º de Agosto A and B, Sporting de Luanda, Electro do Lobito, Sporting de Cabinda, Ende de Luanda, Maculusso, Sporting do Namibe and Casa do Pessoas do Porto do Lobito participate in the competition. .
