Africa-Press – Angola. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi sent a message of condolences to the Head of State, João Lourenço, on the death of former President José Eduardo dos Santos.
“The death of President José Eduardo dos Santos is a great loss, not only for Angola, but also for the region and for everyone”, reads the message.
“He will always be an icon of the struggle for Angola’s economic independence, peacemaker and regional integration of the SADC countries of which he was one of the founders. His legacy will be forever registered in an indelible way in the annals of the history of Angola and of Africa,” said Nyusi.
A figure worthy of “admiration” and a “visionary leader”, the former Angolan president has achieved achievements that remain in the Mozambican collective memory, he concluded.
José Eduardo dos Santos died today at the age of 79 after two weeks in intensive care at a clinic in Spain, Barcelona.
