Revenues may increase with the reopening of the border

Africa-Press – Angola. The 7th Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT) is doing everything possible so that with the soon reopening of the Tchicolondo Border Post, in the province of Lunda-Norte, it will considerably increase the monthly average of tax revenue estimated until then at 40 million kwanzas.

This objective was declared in the recent visit made by Governor Ernesto Muangala, accompanied by the delegate of the Interior, Alfredo Quintino “Nilo” and other officials of the Provincial Government of Lunda-Norte and also of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), headed by the governor from Kassai Central, John Ka-beya Shikayi.

The head of the Department of Customs Services of the 7th Region of the General Tax Administration, Cami-lo Savitu, said that with the closure of the border due to preventive measures against Covid-19, revenues in that customs instance have reduced significantly, but that the reopening brings also expectations that revenue can be raised by increasing trade between the two locations in Angola and the DRC, respectively.

Tchicolondo is one of the main customs posts in the tributary region, which comprises the provinces of Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul and Moxico,

According to AGT, after the closure of the border, revenues dropped considerably, and the Tchicolondo Customs Post, in Lunda-Norte, is an international route on the border with Kalamba Mbunji, in Kassai Central province, one of the main points outlet for the supply of food products from Angola to that region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The indicators advanced by Camilo Savith indicate that due to the large migratory movement, combined with the volume of business, the Tchicolondo Customs Post is able to attract many economic agents.

“AGT is working on creating technical and technological conditions for the accommodation of staff and assuring revenue control, from the Tchicolondo Border Post and others in the region. Lunda-Norte shares an extensive border with the DRC , whose commercial exchanges at the Tchicolondo Post have been quite intense and dynamic, which requires strict inspection”, he underlined.

Improvements In Conditions

Speaking to the press, the provincial commander of the National Police and Deputy of the Ministry of the Interior of Lunda-Norte, Commissioner Alfredo Quintino “Nilo”, explained that the meeting between the two governors, held at the Border Post of Kalamba Mbuji, in the province of Kassai Central, made it possible to recognize the importance of resuming trade between the two locations.

After the official reopening, a few days ago, of the Luvu Border Post , in the province of Zaire, the authorities of Lunda-Norte are committed to seeing all the conditions created for the resumption of commercial activity with Kassai Central, according to the official of the National Police. .

Alfredo Quintino “Nilo” clarified that, at the border, only the Congolese part has a market, where trade takes place, and on the Angolan side there is also a commitment to create a space for the commercialization of different products.

The delegate of the Ministry of the Interior in Lunda-Norte also pointed out that the improvement of the road linking the mining town of N’zagi, in Cambulo, to the Tchicolondo Border Post, is still one of the problems to be resolved by the Angolan authorities.

The governor of Lunda-Norte, Ernesto Muangala, traveled last Saturday to the Tchicolondo border post, located 97 kilometers from the seat of the municipality of Cambulo, to verify the conditions for the resumption of trade with the Congolese province of Kassai Central.
