The African Ministerial Committee on Rating Scale and Contributions at Ambassador Level and the Experts of the Committee of Fifteen Ministers of Finance bowed before the memory of the former President of the Republic observing, yesterday, a minute of silence, for the political qualities that allowed to leave a legacy for the African continent.
The chairman of the Committee and ambassador of Chad in Ethiopia, Mahamat Ali Hassan, expressed, during the summit, which took place in virtual format, the feeling of sadness at the death of José Eduardo dos Santos, which took place last Friday, in Barcelona. , Kingdom of Spain.
The diplomat praised his contribution to the liberation of the African continent, especially in his commitment to the search for solutions and conflict resolution, underlined by his strong engagement in political and security issues within the framework of the African Union, which is why, for this reason, the his absence is visibly noticed, leaving a great legacy for the continent.
The ambassador of Chad presented, on behalf of the Committee, his deepest condolences to the Angolan Executive and the bereaved family. Speaking at the meeting, the Angolan Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa thanked the pairs for observing a minute’s silence in memory of José Eduardo dos Santos, whom he designated “great African statesman”.
Francisco da Cruz added that Angola mourns a far-sighted leader, a convinced patriot who led the country in exceptional circumstances and difficult times, having worked tirelessly to achieve peace and reconciliation between Angolans who have been estranged from decades of conflict, thus consolidating the Independence, Sovereignty and National Unity.
“Africa has lost a Pan-Africanist, a selfless freedom fighter who contributed to political transformations in Southern Africa and to the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts, particularly in the Great Lakes Region”, highlighted Ambassador Francisco da Cruz, stressing that José Eduardo dos Santos has always been committed to the search for consensual and inclusive African solutions in favor of the continent’s peace, stability and development agenda.
