Africa-Press – Angola. A cultural event alluding to International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on July 25, will be held today, at 5 pm, by the Embassy of Argentina in Angola.

The Argentine ambassador to Angola, Alejandro Verdier, told yesterday that the activity aims to honor some Angolan female characters in the arts and civil society.

A musical selection with Afro-Argentine and Afro-Latin-Caribbean themes and the participation of Angolan artists is reserved for the cultural and artistic part of the activity.

Ambassador Alejandro Verdier will talk about the African presence and traits in African culture, highlighting the tango as an example, since the Argentine diplomat has focused on the dissemination and promotion of African influence in the culture of his country, as happened at the Bienal da Paz, in which the national pavilion of Argentina presented Afro-Argentine artists in a virtual way.

The 25th of July is celebrated as the International Day of Women of African Descent, having its origins in 1992, when black women from 32 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in the Dominican Republic to define strategies for political advocacy and confront racism in from a gender perspective.

Some aspects of Afro-Argentine culture can be visited on the Luanda Peace Biennial website and in the future the presence of some names of Argentine culture is not ruled out.

Last year, the Embassy of Argentina in Angola held, at the Casa de Cultura Brasil-Angola, a photographic exhibition entitled “ReVeladas”, with stories of Afro-Argentine women, captured by Mar Diaz Pacheco.

In the photographic exhibition, a proposal was revealed, through a poetic visual story, where Mar Diaz reveals and affirms these faces, resignifying their ancestry, history, skin and roots.
