Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, represents, today, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at the XXI Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of States of Central Africa (ECCAS).

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event will be chaired by the Head of State of the Democratic Republic of Congo and also acting President of ECCAS, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi.

At the meeting, the statesmen will take cognizance of the work report of the Council of Ministers and proceed with the analysis and adoption of the recommendations of the Council of Ministers and the Final Communiqué of this XXI Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECCAS.

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) is a sub-regional economic bloc made up of 11 countries, namely Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, São Tomé and Príncipe, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

The purpose of these States is to implement a common policy, aiming to eliminate customs taxes among the Member States, stimulate the free movement of goods, services and people, as well as advance industrial development, among other objectives.

In the medium-long term, ECCAS fights for the improvement of land connections between the countries that make up the group, as there is an awareness that mobility is one of its weakest links as an economic bloc.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, who is attending the meeting in the presence of the Head of State, João Lourenço, is accompanied by the director for Africa, the Middle East and Regional Organizations, Miguel Bembe, the Angolan ambassador to Gabon and the permanent representative with ECCAS, Lizeth Satumbo Pena, with the ambassador of Angola in Ethiopia and with the African Union and with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Francisco da Cruz, and with the ambassador of Angola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Miguel Costa.

ECCAS mobilizes all its resources and energy to make Central Africa a region of peace, prosperity and solidarity based on a unified economic and political space. The organization covers all the activities of public institutions, private companies, civil society and the region’s populations in a dynamic and integrated perspective based on five pillars: peace and security; common market; environment and natural resources; land use planning and infrastructure; gender and human development.

Thus, economic growth, social well-being and nature preservation are built through the regional integration that ECCAS develops among the 11 member states.
