The president of the Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) in Cuando Cubango said that during the voting process, on August 24, the province will have 412 polling stations, where 662 polling stations will be installed to serve around 292,520 citizens. with active electoral capacity.
Felisberto Sérgio Canhanga said, in an interview with Jornal de Angola, that all the conditions relating to the preparation of the general elections are in place, the polling stations are already signposted throughout the Cuando Cubango and the eight competing political parties have already received the materials. provided by the CNE for the registration of list delegates until the 6th of August.
He explained that more than 130 electoral civic education agents have been working since the 27th of June of the current year, in raising awareness, mobilization and door-to-door education of the population, especially voters, in order to teach them how to vote and where will be able to vote.
He stressed that the work of the CPE is reflected throughout the territory, including in the hard-to-reach areas of Cuando Cubango and the population is fully informed about the importance of voting and the need to flock to polling stations and polling stations en masse, as well as, adopt responsible conduct after the publication of the final results of the elections.
He explained that the Electoral Civic Education process will take place in three distinct phases before, during and after the elections to raise people’s social and civic awareness, to participate actively and responsibly in the country’s public life and to prevent absenteeism. on polling day and any riots.
“The message being passed on is about the general elections, aiming to awaken all citizens with electoral capacity to be well prepared to participate in the party of democracy, to consciously elect the country’s future leaders”, he said.
He explained that in order to facilitate the process, electoral civic education agents were recruited at the level of the localities where they reside to facilitate the transmission of information in local languages and using electronic devices to provide voters with the exact location data of the assemblies and tables where will vote.
He informed that next week the CNE in Cuando Cubango will start training the 2,648 members who will work at the polling stations, an activity that will last 12 days. The trainees will be trained in knowledge and effective techniques to serve voters with skill and speed, to prevent the population from going hungry and thirsty at the polling place.
“We have other training courses underway, with a view to having well-prepared human resources with refined technical knowledge so that the elections run smoothly”, he concluded.
