Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan National Assembly Speaker Adão de Almeida on Monday in Maputo advocated for the need to build reconciled societies, where the work and constructive ideas of all are considered in the process of nation-building.
He noted that when any demagogic lie prevails over institutional truth, democrats should be concerned, because there is no solid democracy without credible institutions.
“Let us also raise our voices so that weapons give way to dialogue and, thus, we can contribute to the understanding that the world needs more cooperation than competition. Our voices must also continue to echo in favor of profound reforms in the world order in the political, diplomatic, economic and financial domains,” reinforced Adão de Almeida.
In his view, continuing to insist on mechanisms of global strategic decision-making that do not reserve a dignified and relevant place for the African continent is to stabilize in a solution that is about eight decades old, designed in a global context completely different from the current one.
“Maintaining the current model for structuring the United Nations Security Council, as far as our continent is concerned, is not only to persist in an anachronistic solution, but also to exclude from this important body the permanent and adequate representation of approximately 1.5 billion citizens of the planet, curiously belonging to the second most populous continent and the one that is growing the most in terms of population,” he pointed out.
He stated that it is inevitable that, as Parliaments, they must join synergies in the different continental and regional parliamentary platforms in favor of profound reforms in the global governance system.
During his speech in the Mozambican parliament, he stated that Africa cannot continue to watch from the television.
Angola and Mozambique maintain solid parliamentary cooperation, based on the sharing of good practices in the legislative and institutional fields, as well as in the training and technical capacity building of Members of the National Assembly and parliamentary staff.
The two countries frequently act in a coordinated manner in regional and international organizations, such as the SADC Parliamentary Forum and the Pan-African Parliament, where they defend common interests related to development, peace and regional security.
