Africa-Press – Angola. The national swimming coach, João Aguiar, acknowledged on Friday the Angolan swimmers’ failure in the 15th edition of the African Championship that ended on Wednesday, in the city of Tunis, Tunisia, in a competition in which the country managed only one medal of bronze.

João Aguiar, in a balance to assess the individual performance of each Angolan swimmer in the competition, said that many goals had been achieved, but acknowledged that there is still a lot of work to be done to overcome the upcoming appointments.

“Our athletes did a lot. Congratulations are all due to the effort and dedication during the competition”, highlighted the national coach. Lia Lima was the only one who won the only bronze medal in the 200 meters mariposa, with the brand of 2.23.57, in the debut. Lia also competed in the 100-meter breaststroke event and finished in the last position, clocking 01.05.78.

Rafaela Santo competed in three races of the five in which she was registered. Rafaela qualified in three finals. The first final, she disputed the 400 meters freestyle and was in the eighth and last position, with the record 4.51.87. In the second was the 1500-meter freestyle, in which she clocked 19 minutes and 38 seconds. The last one was the 4X200m freestyle relay, with Lia Lima, Maria Freitas and Sofia Vieira who were in sixth and last place, with a time of 9:22.32.

Henrique Mascarenhas, registered in four events, qualified in the finals of the 200 and 400 meters freestyle, totaling 1:56.85 and 4:14.54, respectively. Maria Lopes stood out in the final in seventh position in the 200 meters freestyle.
