Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ana Maria de Oliveira, met on Friday with her British counterpart, Eleanor Sanders, to discuss issues on the multilateral agenda, with emphasis on human rights.

During the meeting, the two diplomats analyzed cooperation within the United Nations system and current global challenges, at a time when Angola is a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.

According to a press release from the Angolan diplomatic representation in Geneva, on that occasion, Ana Maria de Oliveira reaffirmed Angola’s willingness to work with the other members of the Council, in addition to underlining the country’s commitment to constructive dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

In turn, Eleanor Sanders highlighted the United Kingdom’s interest in issues related to human rights, especially with regard to the protection of women and young people.

The British diplomat also expressed concern about the human rights situation in several African countries, including Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea and Somalia.

According to the official, the United Kingdom intends to deepen cooperation with African countries on this matter, particularly with Angola, in areas of common interest.
