Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, João Cravinho, highlighted today the role of the former Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos, referring that the former statesman knew how to create proximity with Portugal and that the country “owes him a lot”.
“José Eduardo dos Santos knew how to establish with all the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic elected in democracy, due to the longevity of his career, relationships that provided the proximity between our peoples and in this sense Portugal also owes him a lot”, highlighted João Cravinho, upon arrival. to Praça da República, in Luanda, where the funeral services take place.
In the opinion of the head of Portuguese diplomacy, this “is the tribute that Angola and the world owe” to José Eduardo dos Santos, who was President for 38 years “in difficult and complex times”.
“He showed extraordinary leadership in decisive moments for Angola and the African continent and naturally Portugal could not fail to be present at the highest level”, explained João Gomes Cravinho.
