Africa-Press – Angola. The announced entry into operation, this month, of three Diesel Multiple Units (DMU), the well-known modern trains, in the province of Benguela and in Lobito, in particular, sees an increase in terms of options in terms of mobility for the population of the city, from a point to another, through these important means of transport.

The good news was announced by João Lourenço, in the guise of a candidate for President of the Republic by the MPLA, at the mass act on 18 August, in Benguela.

The so-called modern trains, which the country has just acquired and which already make the Luanda-Viana connection, with the prospect of reaching Catete, can carry 700 seated passengers at once.

Ottoniel Manuel, executive director for the Technical Area of the Benguela Railway, highlighted the strengths of the entry into operation of the three DMUs in the province and in Lobito, in particular. “These represent an added value for the province, as they will exponentially improve urban mobility, since they are specific equipment for the transport of passengers”, he said.

As for the connection of the railway branch, which will link the CFB to Zambia, over a length of 259 kilometers, to the border point of Jimbe and is financed by the African Development Bank (BDA), the railway official indicated the enormous benefits that will result from this.

“It will allow the flow of products, especially ores from Zambia, specifically from the Cooperbelt region, in addition to transporting a lot of ‘made in Angola’ production. Therefore, the entry into operation of these units is very beneficial”, he stressed.
