Livestock projects create 900 jobs

Africa-Press – Angola. The promotion of agriculture and livestock that is being developed, in a sustainable way, by the Mumba and Agrikuvango farms, allowed the creation, until January, of 900 direct jobs for local young people, in the municipality of Cuvango (350 kilometers east of the city of Lubango), Huila province.

The municipal administrator of Cuvango, Luís Marcelo Ndala, said that the two projects must be protected because their essence is to contribute to the fight against hunger and poverty and improve the quality of life of the populations, both in rural and urban areas.

The Mumba farm created employment for 600 locals, while the Agrikuvango project employed 300 local youth.
Luís Ndala said that the two projects created around 1,000 indirect jobs, benefiting around 5,000 people in the various communes of Cuvango.

“We have to rejoice with the two projects. Even so, it is necessary to denounce any citizen who tries to invade the border areas of the projects that are generating income in the families”, he appealed.

As an example, said the administrator, in 2021, the municipality recorded a production of more than 65 percent and despite the absence of rains, it managed to feed several provinces.
“Today, we have road connections with Mumba and Agrikuvango, which is influencing the economic balance of the municipalities in the eastern region of the province of Huíla”, he explained.

Luís Marcelo Ndala said, on the other hand, that the Mumba farm is dedicated to raising and breeding cattle for slaughter, while Agrikuvango is dedicated to cereals, where maize stands out.
The two farms have social responsibilities with the populations, with the construction of schools, housing and the rehabilitation of access roads, including their inclusion in projects in the most varied areas. He clarified that the access roads are permanently under maintenance.

He said that the contribution of the two farms is reducing the pressure on the Municipal Administration of Cuvango. Luís Marcelo Ndala invited other entrepreneurs to invest in the municipality. He said that Cuvango has arable land and a lot of water resources for the promotion of agriculture and others.

The official said that the geographical location of the municipality in the province of Huíla is strategic as it borders the provinces of Cunene, Bié and Cuando Cubango. “Cuvango is a turning point for communication with the North, Center and South of the country, because it combines with the provinces of Cunene, Cuando Cubango, Bié and Huambo”, he said.

The municipality has an estimated population of over 97,000. inhabitants, of which 76 percent are devoted to agriculture and livestock.
The Cuvango, he said, can boast that last year it even shipped food to the provinces of Huambo and Benguela, including cereals (corn, beans) and legumes.

Despite the drought that plagues the South region, he acknowledges, because of the adequate use of available water by investors, the municipality of Cuvango continues to sell corn and beans.
