MPLA reiterates its commitment to gender parity

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, reaffirmed this Saturday, in the municipality of Ombadja, southern Cunene province, her party’s commitment to implementing actions aimed at guaranteeing parity between men and women.

Speaking at the central event commemorating the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Organization of Angolan Women (OMA), he said that the parity represents a true historical milestone in the process of affirmation of Angolan women and in the advancement of society.

For the vice-president, women should have the same opportunities as men, recognizing their merit and capacity for this challenge.

“The MPLA led by President João Lourenço bet with courage and a modern vision on parity”, he said.

According to the leader of the biggest party in Angola, this feat allowed women to be well represented in the party, where they reached 50 percent equality, and in the State, with the election of the first woman to the position of Vice-President of the Republic.

“With the support of all Angolans, in Angola and with the MPLA, the clock of inclusion and women’s rights is moving forward, leaving behind the manifestations of discrimination that relegate women to the background”, he maintained.

However, it ensured the continuous commitment to the promotion of women, based on merit, competence and justice, in clear evidence of the recognition of the potential of this layer of society.

But for that, he said, it is necessary for women to be more and more united and solidary with each other, working side by side with men for the development of the homeland.

OMA constitutes the engine that mobilizes the victories

Luísa Damião considers the women’s organization of the party, OMA, as a mobilizing engine to guarantee the multiple victories achieved by the party.

Among the various contributions, Luísa Damião highlights the role of this organization since the genesis of its foundation, struggles and achievements, as well as in achieving the sustainable development of the country.

“Over the course of 61 years, we are proud to see that we have a more renewed, more mature OMA and always ready for new and noble challenges”, he underlined.

He said that the celebration of OMA’s anniversary, after the 2022 general elections, calls for everyone’s constitutional obligation, in the sense of starting to materialize the commitments assumed with Angolans at the polls.

He asked the militants to continue to inspire and serve as an example for current and future generations, working to protect women’s rights, combating domestic violence and raising the culture of denouncement.

“The militants must remain active and faithful spokespersons in the defense of women’s causes and interests, with particular emphasis on promoting campaigns against domestic violence and all types of discrimination that jeopardize women’s rights”, he emphasized.

He said that the mission also involves strengthening the organization’s internal life, which increasingly permeates unity and cohesion, which requires more intelligence, creativity and innovation in methods and techniques for making politics.

Cunene constitutes MPLA electoral square

Luísa Damião also reaffirmed in Xangongo, municipality of Ombadja, that the province of Cunene constitutes the electoral square and bastion of the party, for having managed to maintain the feat of the five/zero.

He recognizes that in the last elections, the people of Cunene showed, once again, their loyalty to the MPLA, as it was the only province in the country that managed to place the five deputies in the National Assembly.

In this regard, he congratulated the engagement of MPLA leaders, cadres, militants, sympathizers and friends, who deposited their vote of confidence in the MPLA party and its leader, providing the party with an absolute majority.

He encouraged the militant mass to continue with all intelligence, the work of party political mobilization for permanent achievement of the “gazelle leap”.

“We take advantage of this superb opportunity to reiterate our thanks for your dedication and commitment in the electoral process that allows us to continue to fulfill the dreams of all Angolans”, he emphasized.

The Organization of Angolan Women (OMA) was founded on January 10, 1962.
