Africa-Press – Angola. Some residents of the Álvaro Buta neighbourhood, in Mbanza Kongo, northern Zaire province, this Monday expressed their satisfaction with the redevelopment of the streets in this area, considered the oldest in the city to be a World Heritage Site.
Initiated at the end of 2022, the works, part of the program for the rehabilitation of urban roads in the municipal seats of the province of Zaire, consist of the application of the asphalt mat (seven kms), public lighting system, sidewalks and placement of curbs.
In all, US$86 million are being invested in the province’s six municipal capitals (Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba, Tomboco, Nzeto and Nóqui), under a line of financing from the Kingdom of Spain.
Moisés José, a resident, was satisfied with the new image that the Álvaro Buta neighborhood boasts as a result of the rehabilitation of its road network, made up of beaten earth.
He added that almost eighty percent of the roads in this locality have already benefited from asphalt, as well as from technical networks for draining rainwater and wastewater.
Maria Angelina, a resident, considered the recovery of the streets in her neighborhood to be an asset, having praised the work carried out by the Provincial Government.
For you, the roads in the Álvaro Buta neighborhood have been calling for a definitive rehabilitation for a long time, due to their advanced state of degradation.
“Vehicles no longer circulated inside some areas of the neighbourhood. Today, the scenario is very different,” she recalled.
Martins António, also a resident, highlighted the rehabilitation of the access road to the municipal stadium of Mbanza Kongo, located in the same neighbourhood.
He added that the poor condition of the road that gives access to the football stadium, in addition to creating constraints for fans of this sport, provided a desolate image for the population, especially for visiting teams.
“We recognize the actions that our provincial government is developing in favor of our city, especially in the asphalting of the main streets in the peripheral zone”, he stressed.
The source took the opportunity to appeal for the conservation of these and other infrastructures that the government makes available to local inhabitants.
In turn, Ernesto Eduardo encouraged the local authorities to continue to develop actions with a social impact in the most varied domains in order to gradually improve the quality of life of the population.
“Today, the city of Mbanza Kongo already has many paved streets as a result of various programs implemented by the Executive and the Provincial Government”, he stressed.
It should be noted that, in addition to the program for urban roads in the municipal headquarters of the province of Zaire, the PIIM (Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities) is also giving the city another image with the asphalting of the streets in the periphery of the circumscription.
It should be noted that the first phase of rehabilitation of the urban roads of the six municipal seats in the province of Zaire was launched in 2014 and allowed, in three years, the paving of 25 kilometers of streets in Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba, Tomboco, Nzeto and Noki.
