Africa-Press – Angola. The delegate from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in Zaire province, Commissioner Firmino Uyamba, appealed, Monday, in Mbanza Kongo, to the Prison Service staff for a more humane treatment of prisoners.
Speaking at the provincial act of the 44th anniversary of the Prison Services, marked Monday, the provincial commander of the National Police urged the staff of this body to reinforce the tasks of resocialization and humanization of the penal population.
He pointed out as priorities, for this year, the rehabilitation of prisoners and the improvement of the diet, through productive activities that aim to guarantee self-sufficiency.
In this context, he announced that a project is underway in the country and under the auspices of the supervising ministry to promote agricultural and livestock activity at the level of penitentiary units.
He informed that in Zaire, this project has already been launched in the prison of Mangue Grande, municipality of Soyo, where inmates are engaged in raising small animals and birds.
He also spoke of another program to reinforce re-education actions for prisoners and detainees who should be included in academic and professional training courses aimed at guaranteeing their rapid reintegration into productive life, after serving sentences.
He defended the rehabilitation and expansion of the two existing prisons in the region, that of Nkiende, in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, and that of Mangue Grande, in Soyo, with a view to better accommodating the prison population.
The Jordanian commemoration of the 44th anniversary of the creation of the Prison Services is being marked under the motto “Penitentiary Services, 44 solid years in rehabilitation and social reintegration, consolidating penitentiary production”.
The festivities program included various activities, with emphasis on the planting of trees in some arteries of the cities and towns, visits to the media, among others.
