Africa-Press – Angola. The building of Cine Ruacaná in the province of Huambo, built in the colonial era and destroyed during the post-election armed conflict of 1992 in the country, will soon benefit from rehabilitation works.

The infrastructure, located in the lower part of the city of Huambo, was, in the 60s, 70s and 80s, the main cinema of reference in Huambo.

The announcement of the rehabilitation of the structure was made to the press, Sunday, by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, when he was taking stock of his two-day working visit to this region of the central plateau.

The minister referred that the recovery of the space aims to create conditions for the promotion of theatre, cinema and other cultural activities in the province.

” Cine Ruacaná, classified as national cultural heritage, brings a lot of nostalgia to the local inhabitants who frequented the space”, he stressed.

He added that work was underway to diagnose its condition, for its rehabilitation, highlighting the qualities of the undertaking, as it has a suitable room for cinematography and performing arts.

In addition to the aforementioned features, it has conditions that, if improved, could provide a suitable setting for various events, such as musical shows, for an audience of around 500 people.

For this purpose, he said that contacts are being made with qualified architects for the elaboration of a rehabilitation project that can maintain the original design, as it is a cinema of remembrance and memory for the inhabitants of Huambo.
