Africa-Press – Angola. The Home for the Elderly located in the Kapango neighbourhood, on the outskirts of Luena, province is benefiting from requalification, whose work is budgeted at 25 million kwanzas, in an initiative of the Provincial Government of Moxico.

The requalification will include the construction of another 37 rooms, increasing to 61 compartments with a view to housing more than 80 elderly people who live in precarious conditions.

The rehabilitation also includes the construction of the fence wall, improvement of the electrical and plumbing system to provide greater comfort for the elderly.

According to the director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality in Moxico, Ester Vumbi Celestino Morais, after rehabilitation, another 37 elderly people, whose houses were swallowed by the rain, will be sent to the Bomba neighbourhood.

Currently, the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality in Moxico, controls 165 elderly people, most of them accused of witchcraft and rejected by their relatives.

“ Many people take their elderly parents to reception centers when they need to live as a family, because it is in the family that we all feel happy. No one likes to be marginalized by their own family members,” she said.

He appealed for the need to be guided by respect for elders within the family, with the aim of providing them with security and dignity.

The province of Moxico has two homes for the elderly, namely, the Rainha Nhakatolo home, located west of the city of Luena, and the Kapango neighborhood located in the north of the city.
