Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan financial sector has 8,217 women (48%), out of a total of 17,117 employees employed in the country’s 18 provinces.

According to data released this Wednesday, at the Forum “Women’s Leadership in the Financial Sector”, an initiative of the National Bank of Angola (BNA).

In terms of regulators, the banking sector employs 16,062 employees, of which 7,746 are women (46%), while the insurance area employs 699 employees, 306 are women, representing 43%.

Also according to the data, presented by the Executive Administrator of the BNA, Maria Pereira, of the 356 workers of the Capital Markets Commission (CMC), 165 of whom are women.

Compared to the two largest African economies, South Africa and Nigeria, Angola is better positioned in terms of female representation, at various levels of the financial sector, according to Maria Juliana, who did not provide figures.

At a global level, according to UN data, the current representation of women in the financial sector is 18.1% in decision-making bodies and 28.3% in management bodies, with an expected growth of 33.5% in management bodies. management until 2030.

In terms of supervised personnel, the banking sector controls 14,298 employees, of which 7,038 are women (49%), the insurance sector employs 627 employees, of which 232 are women, with 44% and at CMC, of ​​the 201 employees, 90 are women.

According to the data, there is a better positioning of the banking sector, taking into account the greater number of collaborators that the sector employs.

In the decision-making bodies, at the level of supervisors, three women from the BNA, four from the CMC and one from the National Insurance Regulation and Supervision Agency (ARSEG) are controlled.

At supervised level, 32% are women in the banking sector, 21% in insurance and 19% in capital markets.

Meanwhile, the representation of gender in the Angolan financial sector, in the management bodies, ie middle management, 365 positions are controlled, at supervisor level, of which 153 are held by women (41%).

Of this number, 32 women are in the BNA, 15 in the CMC and six in the Arseg.

On the supervised side, there are 2,170 positions, of which 902 are held by women, 875 in the BNA, 31 in the Arseg and 14 in the CMC.

The analysis of the numbers shows that, despite the superiority of the financial sector being led by men, in decision-making and management positions, women represent practically 40% of occupation of these positions.

“ We can say that we are doing well in the financial sector. Now, the question that arises is how to preserve the positions already won in terms of gender equality and what to do to increase this number”, he questioned.

During the forum, statistical data on female representation in top management in the Angolan financial system were presented.

Some women with leadership positions in banking financial institutions shared professional experiences in the sector, as well as their point of view on the prospects for the development of the financial system.
