Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Domingos Eduardo, defended Thursday, greater dissemination of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, with a view to preserving history and continuing appreciation of its protagonists.
Speaking at the provincial act alluding to the 23rd of March (Day of the Liberation of Southern Africa), which took place in the municipality of Calandula, the official underlined the need to continue transmitting, especially to young people, the battle of Cuito Cuanavale and its implications at from the mainland.
On the other hand, he appealed to the engagement of Angolans in favor of maintaining peace and strengthening unity among the peoples of Southern Africa, in order to honor the heroes of the historic battle.
Meanwhile, the Forum of Combatants of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale (FOCOBACK), in a message, reiterated the need for greater dissemination of March 23 in schools, as well as requested support for members, as they are struggling with difficulties of various kinds.
The event took place under the motto “For the Regional Integration of Southern Africa, We honor the Commanders of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale” and ended with a lecture on “Cuito Cuanavale, the decisive battle”. March 23rd is celebrated throughout Southern Africa.
The date is dedicated to the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, which took place in this municipality in the province of Cuando Cubango and which was decisive for the independence of Namibia and the end of the Apartheid regime in South Africa.
