Africa-Press – Angola. The national president of the Brigada Jovem de Literatura de Angola (BJLA), Carlos Pedro, highlighted, this Thursday, in Huambo, the contribution of the organization in training Angolan writers and raising the literacy of the population.
The official was speaking at the opening of the II National Meeting of Literary Brigadismo, which takes place in the city of Huambo, with the participation of delegates from the country’s 18 provinces, under the motto “By the breath of literature, nobody will stop the rain”.
In his speech, Carlos Pedro referred that through the activities of the BJA and the creativity of its members, the taste for reading among the country’s children and youth has increased, especially in rural communities, where literacy is still not felt on a regular basis.

The writer also made it known that the members of that organization have been able to interpret their true role in the literary education of society, through raising awareness and encouraging young people, particularly students, to cultivate the habit and taste for reading and writing.
According to the person in charge, due to its historical trajectory, the BJLA has already trained many writers, who today inspire many lovers of writing and who, through their works, are making Angolan culture increasingly rich and dynamic.
Still in his speech, he said that the dedication of the organization he directs to the dissemination and preservation of the national literary bibliographic collection, which embodies the legacy of its patron, the founder of the Nation, António Agostinho Neto, is visible.
Therefore, he said that BJLA will continue with its projects such as “Literary excursion let’s discover Angola”, “Community library generation that reads”, “Women’s literature and “Empowerment of women writers” and “Inter-generational meeting between the new and old generation of writers”, to reinforce its actions in the promotion of national culture.
In turn, the director of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office of Huambo province, Jeremias Piedade Chissanga, highlighted the historical trajectory of the BJLA, throughout its demand, judging by its role in promoting young Angolan writers.
For this reason, he reaffirmed the availability of the local Government to continue to support the actions of the youth organization, so that the population, especially the youth, acquire the habit of reading.
The three-day event will analyze the annual activity report for 2022, the activity plan for 2023, the organization’s statutes, the literary manifesto and the standardization of the main literary projects of the BJLA.
The program also foresees a trip to the municipality of Bailundo, where a meeting with the local king will be held, at Ombala Yo Mbalundu, and various books will be offered.
The Brigada Jovem de Literatura de Angola, represented in all provinces of the country, has existed in Huambo since 1980.
