Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan authorities denied, this Friday, the sending of mercenaries to Ukraine, to reinforce the Russian military contingent.
In a note of protest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers false the information disseminated by the CNN-Portugal chain, which denounces an alleged presence of Angolan mercenaries in that country.
MIREX condemns and rejects such information, stating that it constitutes a deliberate intention to tarnish and discredit the good image of the Angolan authorities.
According to the statement, CNN-Portugal did not exercise the contradictory to determine the veracity of the information, when “it had every possibility to do so”.
In view of this stance, the Angolan authorities express their displeasure with the Portuguese authorities, given the damage caused by this “repeated and irresponsible act by CNN-Portugal”.
In its communiqué, MIREX recalls that Angola was already a victim of mercenarism, in the early days of its independence, having always condemned such actions and taking energetic and exemplary measures to discourage such practices.
“This action by the television station CNN-Portugal in no way endorses the good relationship between the Republic of Angola and the Portuguese Republic”, the note declares.
Russia has been carrying out, for more than a year, a military offensive in Ukraine, which has already caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as millions of refugees.
