Africa-Press – Angola. Tennis players João Neves and Gabriela Martins won Sunday, in Luanda, the first edition of the March Women’s Open, for both sexes, played on the courts of the Kikuxi Villas Club Academy, in Viana.

In the men’s final, the CTL player defeated Cleuson Tipewa, from Kikuxi, by two sets to zero, with partials of 6/3 and 6/2.

To reach the final stage of the competition, João Neves beat Nicolau Monteiro (Kikuxi), by 3/6, 6/3, 6/2, while Cleuson Tipewa beat Danilson Bento (CTL), by 6/4 and 6/1.

As for the female sector, Gabriela Martins, from Kikuxi, defeated her colleague Mirian Tuluca, by 6/3 and 6/1.

Earlier, Gabriela defeated Mariana Costa (Kikuxi), by 6/1 and 6/4, while Mirian Tuluca prevailed, with some difficulty, over her companion Biurca Bento, by 6/2 and 7/5.

Still in the class, highlight the performance of the former absolute national champion, Camila Zangui, from IMEL, who after about six years off the courts, returned and reached the crucial stage of the tournament, ruling out strong candidates.

With the participation of more than 30 practitioners, male and female, the winners of the tournament, organized by the Kikuxi Villas Club, were given a cash prize of 500,000 Kwanzas each, a trophy and medals.

In addition to the competition, the course for coaches and referees ended, with the participation of 20 national agents from the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Namibe and Lunda Norte, which was lectured by the Portuguese Pedro Felner (coach) and João Silva (referee).

The two Kikuxi Villas Club events also had the institutional partnership of the Provincial Tennis Association of Luanda (APTL) and the Angolan Federation (FAT) and other sponsors.
