Africa-Press – Angola. The Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) congratulated, this Monday, Portugal and Mozambique, for the entry into force of the amendments to the Foreigners Law and for the measures with a view to their implementation.
The information is contained in the final communiqué of the XVI Extraordinary Meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers, which took place this Monday, in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
In the document, the ministers considered “an enormous step” the approval of the CPLP Mobility Agreement by the XIII Conference of Heads of State and Government, as well as its ratification by all Member States.
According to the communiqué, the ministers encouraged dialogue between Member States, with a view to the eventual signing of additional partnership instruments, under the terms of the Agreement and the principle of variable flexibility enshrined therein.
The new regulations of the Law on Foreigners in Portugal, approved in 2022, make it possible to streamline and make applications for visas and residence permits more flexible, with a simplified regime for students and entrepreneurial immigrants.
The regulations of the Foreigners’ Law in Portugal also allow residence permits, with a simplified regime for seasonal workers and introduce a new regime for workers transferred from other Member States.
The communiqué of the XVI Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Member States of the CPLP encouraged Angola to continue with the mediation efforts for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR) and welcomed the sending of a military contingent to support the operations of peace of the Angolan Armed Forces to that country.
The statement also expresses regret and solidarity with the victims of Cyclone Freddy that hit Mozambique and neighboring countries. The meeting also expressed solidarity with the victims of earthquakes in Turkey, a CPLP associate observer country, and in Syria.
The ministers reiterate “deep concern” with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, called for an immediate end to the conflict and resumption of the path of peace and peaceful relations between States, in accordance with the principles of international law and respect for sovereignty and integrity territorial.
In the statement, they express “appreciation for the Black Sea Cereals Initiative promoted by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, which has allowed mitigating the harmful effects of the conflict on food insecurity and the increase in the prices of essential goods”.
The XVI Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries was attended by representatives from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor -East.
The CPLP executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa, also attended the meeting in the Angolan capital.
The meeting was chaired by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, in his capacity as acting president of the Council of Ministers and host of the meeting.
