Africa-Press – Angola. The increasing inclusion of theater in society’s moralization was praised this Monday by the director of the Olonguisse Theater Group in Cunene province, Jeremias Cangombe.
In a statement to press, regarding the World Theater Day to be celebrated today, he referred that through the exhibition of the performing arts, the theater has been reinforcing the actions of awareness and mobilization of citizens, on the need to practice socially positive actions .
According to the official, through the valences of theatre, seen as one of the active teaching methodologies, it is possible to transmit, with greater efficiency, the historical and cultural values of the old ones to the new generations, with a focus on the consolidation of the Angolan cultural identity.
For this reason, he said it was imperative for the government to look at the performing arts as a fundamental instrument for meeting the challenges of society’s moralization, through the rescue of moral, historical and cultural values.
“Currently the scenic representation is called upon to intervene in social issues by disseminating certain constructive messages so that there is a change in behavior”, he emphasized.
Regarding the development of theater in Cunene, he said that there are improvements in the selection of themes, as well as the quality of the shows and the number of existing groups.
“We must recognize the growth of theater in the province, where groups have shown shows, mainly with social content, which lead the population to reflect and learn new facts”, he stressed.
Jeremias Cangombe pointed out the lack of suitable rooms and support as constraints, stressing that the theater is displayed in the adapted space of the media library’s conference room.
In salute to the date, he said that a theater workshop will be held, where some plays will be shown and topics related to the expansion of theater and its advantages will be addressed.
With 18 years of existence, the Olonguissi theater group is the oldest in the province of Cunene, has two national identity awards, participated twice in FENACULT and six times in the international theater festival held in Luanda.
World Theater Day, celebrated on March 27, was created by the International Theater Institute in 1961 in Paris (France).
Theater is an ancient art and since ancient times it has been used as a way of expressing and disseminating the culture of peoples, having its origin in Greece.
