Africa-Press – Angola. The Political Bureau of the MPLA highlighted this Tuesday, in Luanda, the achievements of the archbishop emeritus of Huambo, Dom Francisco Viti, who directed his homilies in the permanent fight for the materialization of well-being and social justice.

The acknowledgment was made in a message of condolences, for the death of Archbishop Dom Francisco Viti, which occurred on the 15th of the current month, in Luanda, as a result of a road accident recorded on the 19th of February last, when he was returning from a pastoral mission, in the province of Cuando Cubango.

In the document, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA manifests itself deeply dismayed by the physical passing of the prelate.

“At this time of pain and mourning, on behalf of all MPLA militants, sympathizers and friends, the Political Bureau bows down to the memory of the deceased, sending deep condolences to the family and the Board of the Catholic Church”, he says.

He considers that the Catholic community of Huambo, in particular, and the country, in general, loses one of the most prominent prelates, who throughout his ministry stood out for the unique character of his homilies.

“Vertical in his approaches to various themes of the Catholic Church in Angola and others in everyday life, Dom Francisco Viti was considered a charismatic archbishop in leading the community to whom he incessantly instilled values of union, solidarity and, above all, devotion to the Creator” , highlights.

Born in the province of Benguela, Bishop Francisco Viti was ordained a priest on July 14, 1963, and in August 1975, he was appointed by Pope Paul VI as the first bishop of the diocese of Serpa Pinto, in the current province of Cuando Cubango.

As one of the bishops with the longest tenure in the priesthood at the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST), he headed the Archdiocese of Huambo from September 12, 1986 to July 31, 2003, the date on which he resigned.
