Africa-Press – Angola. Inocência Pinto, Hélder Pitta Groz and Luís da Mota Liz were the most voted candidates by members of the Superior Council for the Magistracy of the Public Ministry (CSMMP) for the positions of attorney general and deputy attorney general of the Republic.
In the election that took place this Monday, Inocência Gonçalo Pinto obtained 11 votes, while Hélder Fernando Pitta Groz (current PGR) and Luís de Assunção Pedro da Mota Liz obtained 10 votes each.
The list of the three most voted candidates will be presented to the President of the Republic, who will choose, among them, the new Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, for a renewable five-year term.
The Statute of Public Prosecution Magistrates (MP) requires an adequate process to be carried out for the selection of three candidates, among whom the President of the Republic appoints, in a sovereign manner, the PGR.
The President of the Electoral Commission, Arcanjo Custódio, clarified that from the three candidates the President of the Republic will choose, at his discretion, two names for the positions of Attorney General of the Republic and Deputy Attorney General of the Republic.
Upon completion of the process, the Electoral Commission proceeded, in accordance with the regulations, to draw up the minutes and submitted the results obtained for approval and homologation by the plenary of the Superior Council for the Magistracy of the Public Prosecution Service (CSMMP), the body for discipline and management of MP judges.
In the electoral race, to fill the positions, nine candidates left, namely Adão Adriano, Beato Manuel Paulo, Domingos Manuel Dias, Eduarda de Carvalho Rodrigues Neto, Gilberto Mizalaque Vunge, Hélder Fernando Pitta Groz, Inocência Gonçalo Pinto, Lucas Ramos dos Santos and Luís de Assunção Pedro da Mota Luz.
Magistrate Pedro Mendes de Carvalho withdrew from the electoral race shortly before the election.
The candidacies were admitted in alphabetical order, during the first meeting of the Electoral Commission for filling the positions of Attorney General of the Republic and Deputy Attorney General, convened on April 19 of this year, by its president.
It should be noted that Hélder Pitta Groz and Mota Liz were appointed attorney and deputy attorney general of the Republic, respectively, in December 2017.
The PGR, established in April 1979, is a body with the function of representing the State, namely in the exercise of criminal action, defense of the rights of natural and legal persons, legality in the exercise of the judicial function and inspection of legality in the preparatory instruction phase of the processes and the fulfillment of sentences.
