Africa-Press – Angola. The pilot phase of the General Population and Housing Census, to take place next July, will cover Cuito Cuanavale and Cuangar, of the nine that make up Cuando Cubango, once the technical, logistical and human conditions have been created for the effect.

The information was provided today, Wednesday, to the press, by the Deputy Director General of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Hernany Luís, who works in Cuando Cubango to verify “in loco” the conditions already created in these localities.

The official said that, for Cuando Cubango, 34 technicians have been recruited who will be involved in the process of collecting the necessary data, including drivers and cartographers, a process that will be carried out digitally with households.

He explained that the pilot phase of the General Population and Housing Census, which will last 20 days, will give way to the final process in 2024, on the 19th of July.

He said that the undertaking, at country level, relies on the international partnership of the United Nations Population and Housing Fund (UNFPA), for technical support, IT consultancy, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), among others.

At the level of the Angolan government, Hernany Luís, in addition to financial support, will be available by air, through the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as means of transport assigned to the National Institute of Statistics, already prepared for the aforementioned process. at the level of the provinces covered.

Without predicting how many citizens will be surveyed, the Deputy Director General of INE asked the families and traditional authorities of Cuito Cuanavale and Cuangar to provide INE technicians with all the essential information that may be needed in the communities.

The delegation went today, Wednesday, to the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, 189 kilometers east of the city of Menongue, with the purpose of assessing the technical and logistical conditions, as well as interacting with the local administration on the steps that will be taken during data collection from communities.

It should be noted that the General Population Census in 2014 pointed to over 534 thousand inhabitants in Cuando Cubango, in an analogous process, different from this one that will be technological.
