Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, asked Wednesday, in the city of Cuito, for proactivity and audacity in actions linked to the fight against corruption in this part of the country.
The government official made these statements during the opening act of the public consultation process of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption (ENAPREC) project, promoted by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE) , Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, an act that is being developed throughout the country.
Pereira Alfredo said that the action aims, above all, to discourage, more and more, attempts at corruption within the government apparatus and to instill in the conscience of public managers the importance of transparency and ethics in the use of the treasury and other assets of the State.
Given the importance of the matter, the governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, encouraged the relevant bodies to consult different areas of society, with a view to retaining the opinion of citizens on the main measures to contain this phenomenon, which tends to stain the country abroad. .
“This very important instrument should also be taken to higher education institutions, in order to broaden its approach with young people from academia, so that, in the end, it will have a practicality of prevention”, he said.
IGAE bets on education
According to the delegate of the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE) in Bié, Elsa Cristina Neto, education actions are of capital importance for the reduction of corruption rates, promoting a set of immeasurable social actions.
On the other hand, Elsa Cristina Neto assured that she will be more ruthless with anyone who insists on illegal activities within the government, in order to reduce this phenomenon as much as possible within public institutions.
PGR ensures continuity in the repression and arrest of acts of corruption
The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic acting in Bié, Dulce Chimbisso Simão, assured, on the occasion, that the PGR in this part of the country will remain focused on the repression and arrest of all acts linked to corruption.
Without advancing numbers of cases of this nature already in the possession of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, he guaranteed that there is a hard work to discover more cases at the provincial level.
Dulce Simão highlighted the need to increasingly promote the culture of denouncement, for a more active participation of citizens in this struggle, which she believes belongs to everyone.
Citizens call for an end to impunity
Citizens who participated in the process of public consultation of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption project, held in the auditorium of the Instituto Técnico de Saúde Comandante Bula, pointed to impunity as the factor that encourages corruption.
Osvaldo Hipólito highlighted the need to punish all cases of corruption, having requested everyone’s cooperation in this process.
For José Alves, impunity is the driving force behind these acts, which is why he also defends the maximum penalty in accordance with the law.
The draft National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption, officially launched on the 18th of this month, was prepared by a working group created in 2019. It includes several public bodies and is coordinated by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, on the advice of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
The Working Group was also tasked with carrying out studies and preparing proposals and mechanisms for implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
