Governor defends reassessment of mining concessions

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Lunda Norte, Deolinda Satula Vilarinho, Wednesday defended the need to reassess some areas granted for mining in the province, with a view to partially releasing some lands for agricultural production.

The official made such considerations during the workshop on the geological potential of Lunda Norte, underlining that the reassessment will prevent any agro-industrial activity to be developed in the future, as is the case of the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (PLANAGRAN), conflict with mining projects.

Deolinda Vilarinho considered it essential that diamond projects help to promote, within the framework of their social responsibilities, family farming, supporting peasants in the surrounding communities.

On the other hand, it encouraged mining companies operating in Lunda Norte to improve their investment in geological prospecting, with a view to discovering new wells, to increase production.

He added that the increase in production will contribute to improving the collection of tax revenues from the diamond subsector.

“The Executive is committed to diversifying the productivity of mineral resources, taking into account the vast potential of this resource, investing more and more in adding value to diamonds, to increase tax revenues from the non-oil sector”, he stressed.

The workshop was held within the framework of the celebrations of the Mineiro Worker’s Day, which today, April 27, is celebrated.
