Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Miguel César Domingos Bembe, presented Thursday, in the city of Addis Ababa, the credentials to the President of that country, Sahle-Work Zewde.

According to a press note, the new extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola in Ethiopia reiterated his availability to work on strengthening cooperation relations.

During the accreditation ceremony, held at the presidential palace, the diplomat considered it pertinent to expand and diversify bilateral relations beyond diplomatic cooperation, with the aim of corresponding to the current economic development and the strategic influence of the two countries.

The ambassador sees the possibility for the two States to explore the opportunities of their geopolitical location, with Angola at the crossroads between the southern and central regions of the African continent and Ethiopia at the crossroads between Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

He underlined the need to consolidate the bilateral legal basis, through the conclusion and signing of the three projects of pending legal instruments, specifically the General Cooperation Agreement in the Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural domains, of Visa Exemption in Diplomatic and Service Passports and the Political Consultation Mechanism.

He considered it urgent to reassess the only two existing bilateral legal instruments, specifically in the areas of air services, initialed in 1977, and trade, in 1981.

Miguel Bembe defended the need to explore new areas of cooperation, with comparative advantages in the agricultural, agro-processing and pharmaceutical industries, in the development of industrial parks, as well as in the pipeline industry.

The ambassador referred that the relations between Angola and Ethiopia are based on historical ties and friendship and animated by the defense of multilateralism in the resolution of global problems and pan-Africanism, aiming at the achievement of Agenda-2063 of the African Union (AU), called “The Africa we want”.

Appointed on the 7th of March to the post of Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Community for Africa, Miguel Bembe is a career diplomat and university professor.

He has already been director for Africa, Middle East and Regional Organizations and for the Office of Studies, Planning and Statistics of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He holds a PhD (Ph.D.) in social sciences (specialization in Political Science) and a Master’s (M.Sc.) in Strategy from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ISCSP-UL).

In terms of academic activity, he is an associate professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Agostinho Neto University and collaborates with the Academy of Social Sciences and Technologies (ACITE).

Speaks fluently Portuguese, French, English, Ibinda and Lingala.
