Africa-Press – Angola. The release of 20 prisoners, who were in the Cambiote prison, marked, this Friday, the closing of the Legality Week of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in Huambo province.
These are 18 citizens, who benefited from the Amnesty Law and two for excessive preventive detention, in an act witnessed by the presiding judge and coordinator of the Judicial province of Huambo, Hélder Vicente da Silva, the municipal administrator, Azevedo Manuel Cambiambia, magistrates Judicial bodies, defense bodies, security and internal order, religious, traditional authorities and lawyers.
Opening on Monday, the Legality Week, which ends yesterday, under the motto “The Public Ministry in defense of the interest and fundamental rights of citizens in administrative justice”, was held in reference to the 44th anniversary of the institutionalization of the PGR, marked last Thursday (27).
At the time, the prosecutor of Huambo province, José Maria da Silva Gustavo, said that the action was part of the procedural inspection program for prisoners, whose criminal framework allows their release.
The magistrate called for permanent vigilance, sharing of information and denouncements, to prevent all attempts aimed at undermining the respect and defense of citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms, thus encouraging the swift processing of cases that escape the judicial bodies.
José Gustavo reiterated the readiness of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Justice and administrative technicians of the PGR in the province of Huambo in their availability, abnegation and patriotic spirit in the defense of legality and democracy.
In general, he said, Legality Week allowed the holding of 15 lectures, two round tables, a public consultation, carried out by 23 magistrates of the Public Ministry, 66 technicians of Justice and staff of the National Police, in a direct involvement of more than two thousand citizens.
In turn, the administrator of the municipality of Huambo, Azevedo Manuel Cambiambia, representing the provincial governor, Lotti Nolika, encouraged the magistrates to strive for the defense of legality, democracy, freedom and the fundamental guarantees of citizens.
He admitted that the Legality Week allowed for a greater deepening of the citizens’ democratic values and to bring together the different institutions of the administration of Justice, in order to create and consolidate a system that better defends the law and the legal order.
Established in April 1979, the PGR is a body with the function of representing the State, namely in the exercise of criminal proceedings, defense of the rights of natural and legal persons, legality in the exercise of the judicial function and supervision of legality in the of preparatory instruction of the processes and the fulfillment of the sentences.
The PGR enjoys administrative and financial autonomy and constitutes a hierarchical organic unit under the direction and management of the Attorney General of the Republic, appointed and dismissed by the President of the Republic, on the proposal of the Superior Council of the Magistracy of the Public Ministry, for a term of five years, renewable once.
