Provider advocates rehabilitation of hospital and school in Icolo e Bengo

Africa-Press – Angola. The need to rehabilitate the infrastructures of the Municipal Hospital of Icolo e Bengo and a school with 14 classrooms, was defended this Friday, in the village of Catete, by the Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo.

According to the official who was speaking at the end of the visit to the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, the structures of the two properties need intervention to better accommodate users.

After a guided visit to the Municipal Hospital of Icolo e Bengo, the provider found that, in addition to the poor state of infrastructure, the unit lacks an X-ray machine, forcing patients to travel to Luanda.

For him, it is important that the hospital, with 100 beds, has a functional device, to prevent residents from traveling more than 63 kilometers to the center of the country’s capital in search of this service.

Another concern of the official relates to the need to increase the number of doctors to the existing 15, to provide a more humanized service, since they assist 300 patients per day, a number considered high for the number of professionals.

About the school with 14 classrooms that he visited for a long time, he stressed that its infrastructure should be improved with painting, assembly of windows and desks, to adequately accommodate students and teachers.

The school, located in the village of Catete, built more than 12 years ago, has 1,000 students enrolled in the first level and 1st cycle.

On that day that marked the end of the Ombudsman’s Week, which took place from the 19th to the 28th of April of the current year, Florbela Araújo promoted a lecture on the theme “The role of the Ombudsman”, aimed at students and academics.

Likewise, he visited a reception center for underprivileged children called “Terra de Amor”, which cares for 34 inpatients and 900 outpatients, located in the village of Aldeia Solar, on the outskirts of the town of Icolo e Bengo.

The Ombudsman’s Office is a public institution independent from the State whose mission is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens.
