Africa-Press – Angola. On Wednesday, 10th May 2023, I commissioned a veritable outcome of our fight against the pandemic of COVID-19, a fight which won global acclaim for our country. By dint of commitment, dedication and hard work, I commissioned the building which will serve as home of the The third edition of the Tundavala Awards, with the gala scheduled for June 10, brings for the first time the inclusion of the categories “Police, Firefighter, Doctor and Nurse of the Year”, for arousing public interest, revealed the organization.
The event is promoted by 2M. Produções, in partnership with its counterpart Showas, with institutional support from the Government of Huíla, essentially aiming to recognize the prominent role in society of various personalities in the province.
There are five members for each category, which makes up 200 competitors. The voting model is through the social network Facebook (40%), added to the “special vote” of the jury, equivalent to 60 percent.
Tuesday, in this city, project mentor Délcio Silva, said that the inclusion of four categories was due to their need to be recognized for what they have been doing in their daily lives, as they help to save lives.
He informed that there are 40 categories in total for awards, from various sectors of civil society, with emphasis on education and scientific research, literature, arts, music, entrepreneurship, health, sports and public safety.
He pointed out that, on the other hand, the categories of Radio, Hotels, Female and Male Model were discontinued, as they were the ones that did not have much public support, as the contest honors the main facets of society.
He referred that they were motivated by the fact that there is no entity to encourage those who make Huíla grow and achievements are always forgotten.
He explained that all applicants can be of Angolan or foreign nationality, provided they reside for more than a year in the province or carry out outstanding activities in it, and must have outstanding works, works or deeds, published, disseminated or marketed in the period.
He made it known that the winners will receive an award and a diploma of merit, but they are working with the partners, in order to get other incentives, with the intention that each winner can receive some pecuniary value.
Délcio Silva stressed that they are studying the possibility of holding the next editions outside the capital city and the municipalities in the pipeline are Chibia, Matala and Humpata.
The Tundavala Awards is an annual competition of a provincial nature, aimed at the best professionals in Huila art and the personalities who shape public opinion in the province, in order to open up an important space for art makers of all branches.
It also has the purpose of encouraging the population’s interest in art as a source of culture and leisure, promoting cultural exchange with the most varied professionals, valuing local culture and heritage, revealing new talents and publicizing Huíla’s natural and cultural heritage.
The previous edition took place in July 2022 and highlighted the work of provincial leaders.
At the height of COVID-19, I declared to the Ghanaian people my determination to help manufacture vaccines here in Ghana. The vaccine nationalism that was played out by the developed world, with the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, meant that we had to take urgent, critical steps towards making sure that never again would we be victims or pawns of the international vaccine order. It was imperative that we took our destiny into our own hands.
It is for this reason that I set-up, on 28th February 2021, the Vaccine Manufacturing Committee, which, by Act of Parliament, has now been transformed into the National Vaccine Institute, to which we have committed twenty-five million dollars ($25 million) in the vaccine production enterprise, initially, to coordinate and facilitate the capacity of domestic pharmaceutical companies to fill, finish and package mRNA COVID-19, malaria and tuberculosis vaccines, and, ultimately, to manufacture them here in Ghana.
Prior to commissioning the Secretariat, I inaugurated the Governing Board of the Institute. It is chaired by Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, and has Prof. William Ampofo, Dr. Baffuor Awuah, Mr. Mustapha Tawiah Kumah, Dr. Daniel Gyingiri Achel, Ms Frederica Sala Illiasu, Dr. Delese Darko, Prof. Alex Dodoo, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Mr. Kofi Nsiah-Poku, Prof. Kofi Opoku Nti, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, and Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson as Members.
