Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço on Friday learned about the current state of the National Radio of Angola (RNA) and its technical needs during a visit intended to “find solutions to the institution’s challenges.”
The president toured some service areas and received explanations from the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Social Communication, Mario Oliveira, as well as the chairman of the RNA board of directors, Pedro Neto.
Speaking to the press, the RNA CEO highlighted the unprecedented and symbolic nature of the president’s visit, noting that it was the first by a head of state in 48 years. He mentioned that the institution has faced various problems for decades.
The first president of the republic, António Agostinho Neto, visited the RNA on October 5, 1977.
“As we all know, we have never had a head of state visit us since President Agostinho Neto’s visit. This is, therefore, a sublime, historic moment, and it falls precisely on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our independence,” he stated.
The manager emphasized that the event has “symbolic meaning for the radio station’s employees,” who are enthusiastic.
He stated, “We have difficulties with work equipment and team mobility, which requires teams to be present in different parts of the country. Our infrastructure has not undergone major renovation in over 30 years and has serious deficiencies.”
According to the RNA CEO, technical and logistical limitations often compromise news coverage, with teams facing daily obstacles to reporting.
