Africa-Press – Angola. The conquest, for the fifth time, of the African Sailing Championship, in optimism, by the National Team, in a competition held at sea in the city of M’Diq (Egypt), marked the last seven days of the sports week.
At the event, Angola repeated the feat of winning the gold medal for teams, after having already done so in the 2022 edition, held in South Africa, Seychelles`2019, Egypt`2017 and Luanda ́2016.
In the same competition, in which the country participated with a selection from the training levels, the sailor Augusto Amaro took silver, in men, and Vitoria Camota the bronze, in women.
For this event, coach Moisés Camota bet on the athletes Carlos Jamba, Augusto Amaro, Francisco Cândido, Lauriano Simão and Victoria Camota.
In addition to the National Team, representations from Egypt, Tanzania, Sudan, Tunisia and the host Morocco participated in the event.
Argentina, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Spain and the United Arab Emirates competed as guests.
Another highlight was the conquest of the National Football Championship by Petro de Luanda, with a 2-0 victory over Interclube, at the 22 de Junho stadium.
Needing just a draw, the national champion still won to total 69 points, against the 60 of second place, 1.o de Agosto, who lost in this 29th round to Wiliete de Benguela, by 0-1.
In other words, Petro could even fail yesterday and remained with 66 points, against 60 on the 1st of August, with the possibility of adding three more in the event of a victory over Interclube, in the last round, where the slack champion.
Kinito and Tiago Azulão were the scorers, the latter being the competition’s top scorer with 20 goals.
The highlight of the week was Petro de Luanda’s preparation for the final phase of the African Basketball League (BAL), to be played from the 20th to the 27th of this month, in the Rwandan city of Kigali.
After a third place in 2021 and a second in 2022, Petro is aiming to win the trophy in this third edition in the League model.
In handball, 1o de Agosto and Petro de Luanda qualified for the quarter-finals of the 39th edition of the Cup Winners’ Club Cup in senior women’s handball, which takes place in Egypt.
Today, for the fourth round and closing of the group stage, 1,o de Agosto beat Habitat, by 32-20, while Petro de Luanda, holder of the title, overcame DGSP, by 23-17.
The two teams finished at the top of their respective groups (A) for Petro with four games, an equal number of wins and 8 points, the same points obtained by 1.o de Agosto in B.
In the quarter-finals, on Monday, the “oil companies” will face Habitat, fourth in group B, while the “military”, winners of group B, will face Sporting de Alexandria, fourth in (A) . MC
