Africa-Press – Angola. The only project of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) paralyzed in Balombo (Benguela) due to the contractor’s technical and financial inability, already has a new dossier to be submitted to a public tender.
This involves earthworks for fourteen kilometers of roads that will connect the municipality’s headquarters to some neighborhoods and villages.
According to the director of the Studies, Planning and Statistics Office (GEPE), Auxílio Pimentel, Balombo has approved nine projects under the PIIM.
He informed that the works of the Police Station in the commune of Chindumbo, 32 kilometers from Balombo, have yet to start.
“This project has already received approval from the Provincial Government and payment has recently been made, and we are just waiting for the money to be reflected in the contractor’s accounts for the work to begin”, he explained.
On the other hand, according to him, six other projects are still in progress, with a considerable delay due to the lack of financial balance on the part of the Government, while the contractors were waiting for the validation of the addendums.
“At this moment we no longer have any interruption of the works because in terms of payments everything is settled and we believe that in the second half of this year, some projects will be inaugurated”, he considered.
Auxílio Pimentel gave as an example two earthworks works, one of seven kilometers and another of 30, which were advanced in the order of 95 and 92 percent of physical execution, respectively.
Balombo was the first of the ten municipalities in Benguela province to launch the PIIM projects, but so far only one has been completed, which is the reception of basic sanitation kits, which are already in the possession of the local administration.
The municipality of Balombo has a territorial extension of two thousand 665 square kilometers and has three communes, namely Chindumbo, Chingongo and Maka-Mombolo. It has an estimated population of 137,000 inhabitants, according to information from the local administration.
