Africa-Press – Angola. The National Football Team bid farewell to their supporters on Tuesday at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, in Luanda, with a 3-1 win over Mauritius, in a match that is part of the eighth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The squad have little chance of qualifying and are seen as almost discredited by the public, especially after the defeat in the previous qualifying round by Libya (0-1) and, before that, by Cape Verde (1-2), played in this same stadium. However, the victory over Mauritius is considered a relief.
To watch the game and support them around five thousand spectators, out of the expected 24,000, were present at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, due to infrastructure works, which has a capacity of 50,000.
Minutes later, Angola adjusted its defensive and offensive moves, and this resulted in the opening goal, scored by Mbala Nzola, in the 17th minute (1-0). The move began with Manuel Benson on the right, passed by Eddie Afonso, and ended with a deflection by the Pisa FC striker, on loan from Fiorentina in Italy.
Mbala Nzola, Fredy and Zini scored Angola, while François scored for Mauritius.
Angola, now with 10 points, play on October 8th, to fulfill the official schedule, against Eswatini (9th round). On the 11th, also in October, the squad will close the campaign against Cameroon (10th round).
Group D is led by Cape Verde, who defeated Cameroon 1-0 at home, now totaling 19 points, compared to 15 points of the defeated team, placing second.
